In Review: Coolest Concepts of the Past 12 Months
\n \tAs summer deliveries begin to wind down, we look to trace the lineage from initial design concept through to final delivery. From up-and-coming studios to long-established names in yachting, the tumult of the last year has in fact shed light on a creative renaissance amongst the designers of our industry. In no particular order, here is our pick of the top four coolest superyacht concepts of the last 12 months:
\n 99m Frontier – Sam Sorgiovanni Sorgiovanni\u2019s 99m explorer concept Frontier is a formidable encapsulation of the exploratory zeitgeist of our industry today. Gigantic in her proportions, Frontier comes equipped with a private cinema and 20-person dining room, two 25m tenders and a 250 square metre owners\u2019 deck complete with 9 x 4m pool. Sorgiovanni, who lent his hand to the interiors of 126.19m Octopus and 84m trimaran White Rabbit, is no stranger to the delicate art of designing Top100 superyachts who retain a sleek and graceful profile. Frontier achieves just this, making her an easy choice for our coolest concepts to be released this last year.\u00a0

\n64m Glauca – Bhushan Powar In any discussion of outside-the-box concepts, we would be remiss not to mention Bhushan Powar\u2019s anything-but-discrete 64m Project Glauca. Superyacht designers never fail to impress with their ability to draw inspiration from any source, be it household objects or military vessels. But it is nature which provides designer Bhushan Powar with his most streamlined and outlandish manifestations of creativity. Taking inspiration from the blue shark, Glauca\u2019s profile achieves a satisfying geometric symmetry while remaining utterly unique. The primacy of the owner is at the core of this concept, with her private owner\u2019s area aft featuring panoramic sea views and two folding galleries.\u00a0

\nClass 55 – Iddes Yachts It may come as no surprise that explorer yachts feature heavily in our 12 month review of coolest design concepts. But the unique offering put forth by Spanish design studio Iddes Yachts with the Class 55 concept is reflective of trends in owner demands in more ways than one. Aside from the harmonisation of rugged explorer vessel with luxury superyacht in one navigable package, the Class 55 is centred around efficiency. Designed with the aim of minimising construction time, but at no expense to meticulation attention to detail, Iddes Yachts\u2019 latest design dedicates itself to what is important to owners. Indeed, founder and designer\u00a0Iv\u00e1n\u00a0Salas\u00a0Jefferson said of the Class 55 that \u2018this is the yacht I would want to build for myself, no doubt,\u2019 after decades of experience working in superyacht design and build.\u00a0

\n115m Stormbreaker – Fotiadis Design Staying ever-true to the theme of ocean giants, Fotiadis Design\u2019s brow-raising Stormbreaker concept tops off our coolest concept review. Always on the lookout for explorer concepts with an edge, Stormbreaker caught our attention with its pledge to keep Owner constantly connected no matter where the yacht is on or off the grid.
