Sam Davies nominates Ni\u00f1ita\u201cThe coolest boat of all time is called Ni\u00f1ita, and is a Starling Burgess 60ft schooner,\u201d says Sam Davies. \u201cIt\u2019s a really amazing, beautiful boat.\u201d The custom-built Ni\u00f1ita has been a familiar fixture on the offshore racing circuit for two decades, with Davies\u2019 parents sailing to stopover ports around the world.
\n\u201cShe was my parents\u2019 house for nearly 20 years. I never lived on board, but for me, that\u2019s home. Wherever I\u2019ve lived, they\u2019ve come to look after my son. It\u2019s like the grandmother ship.\u201d
\nNi\u00f1ita features a bath and woodburning stove. Her seakindly lines are drawn from W Starling Burgess\u2019s long-keeled schooner Ni\u00f1a, which won the 1928 Transatlantic Race, and the 1962 Newport Bermuda Race.
\n\u201cThe original boat was designed as a racing yacht and fully stripped out. It was totally different from the interior of my parents\u2019 boat,\u201d explains Davies.

\n\u201cThey\u2019ve had some cool adventures: the Baltic Sea, the Azores, Madeira, and Lanzarote. But now it needs to find a new family so they can take it on new adventures.\u201d (Ni\u00f1ita is listed with Sandeman.)

\nSam Davies is competing in her fourth Vend\u00e9e Globe this year, and her sixth round the world attempt, having also skippered Team SCA in the 2014 Volvo Ocean Race and crewed on Tracy Edwards\u2019 Jules Verne bid aboard Royal Sun Alliance in 1998. She raced in the 2022 Ocean Race and has also competed in the Figaro and Mini Transat.<\/p>\n
