The roster of 40 solo skippers for this November\u2019s famous solo non-stop round the world race, the Vend\u00e9e Globe is now completeIMOCA teams have been anxiously counting the qualification miles for this year\u2019s around the world race after 44 skippers initially entered, but organisers stood firm on a limit of 40 competitors (increased since previous editions).
\nWith 13 skippers gaining priority after building new IMOCA 60s for the race, and one \u2018wildcard\u2019 entry to be awarded by organisers, that left 26 spots determined by how many miles skippers clocked up in qualifying races.
\nInevitably, some skippers had to drop out of the hunt due to funding or their boats not being ready in time, including Briton Phil Sharp, who is building an ambitious hydrogen-powered IMOCA.
\nGear failure brought some campaigns into jeopardy, such as Clarisse Cr\u00e9mer, who was one of the last skippers to begin building miles. Cr\u00e9mer was in danger of not finishing the Transat CIC after her L\u2019Occitane en Provence suffered structural damage in the early stages. She pulled into the Azores, repaired, and continued across the Atlantic \u2013 chasing the cutoff finish time \u2013 to secure the critical qualifying miles.
\nIn the end, 42 skippers qualified for the race, leaving 27-year-old Brit James Harayda, Gosport-based Oliver Heer and French entrant Fran\u00e7ois Guiffant praying for a \u2018wildcard\u2019 entry.

\t\t\t\t\t\t\tClarisse Cr\u00e9mer has been cleared of any misconduct following anonymous accusations that she cheated during the 2020\/21 Vend\u00e9e Globe by\u2026<\/p>\n
\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTwo new IMOCA skippers who will be fighting at the front of the next Vend\u00e9e Globe<\/p>\n
\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOne year before the 2024 Vend\u00e9e Globe, two back to back transatlantic races \u2013 the classic double-handed Transat Jacques Vabre\u2026<\/p>\n
A petition was started to extend the entry numbers by two \u2013 signed by fellow skippers including Sam Davies \u2013 but organisers confirmed that this race (and the 2028 and 2032 editions) will be limited to 40.
\nOliver Heer was awarded the final entry slot. He commented \u201cI am delighted with the decision of the Vend\u00e9e Globe committee today. Being in position 41 has been incredibly stressful for myself and the team. We have put our hearts and souls into this campaign for the last three years despite some significant setbacks.\u201d
\nHarayda missed out on qualifying for this year\u2019s race. His team issued a statement saying they were \u2018devastated\u2019.
\n\u2018Despite having obtained some great results which we are extremely proud of, Gentoo appears to have fallen short by just 300 miles. This is due to not being able to participate in one of the transatlantic qualifying races because of damage to our rigging while on a delivery in 2023.\u2019
